Austrian privacy organization noyb says OpenAI gives faulty answers from ChatGPT.
Vienna-based non-profit organization noyb, short for “none of your business”, filed a data protection complaint with Austria’s data watchdog. They accuse him of violating Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The complaint states that OpenAI ChatGPT has incorrect information that its chatbot returns as true, and that it also regularly “hallucinates” about people.
The NGO stated that “inventing data about people is not an option” and says that OpenAI refuses to correct the information. This is an alert for companies and employees that incorporate OpenAI as a work tool. It is always recommended to double check the results, as it is not infallible.
For example, you can attribute a quote to the wrong writer or provide data about people who have been on Google, but out of order and with imprecise information.Upon request, according to the NGO, OpenAI explained that there is no way to prevent its systems from displaying false information. The app offers to block or filter results based on questions such as the name of the figure, which relies largely on user corrections.
It also accused OpenAI of not checking its sources or bibliography, a legal obligation that noyb lawyer Maartje de Graaf said “applies to all companies,” adding that it is “clearly possible” to track information sources when an AI system is trained.”Making up false information is problematic enough in itself. But when it comes to false information about people, the consequences can be serious,” de Graaf said in a statement.
“It is clear that companies are currently unable to make chatbots like ChatGPT comply with EU law, when processing data about individuals. If a system cannot produce accurate and transparent results, it cannot be used to generate data about individuals. “Technology has to follow legal requirements, not the other way around.”The so-called hallucinations, in which the AI system produces a misleading or false result in a query but presents it as if it were true, are an open front of judgments, since more than once it attributes facts about personalities that are not true, or make bad calculations. Because it is fed by the Internet, where AI cannot accurately distinguish true or false information.
